§1071.253: The Board shall issue a surveyor-in-training certificate to an applicant who: Meets educational requirements under one of the approved categories. Educational Qualifications for SIT Certificate include various pathways under §1071.253(1)-(5): Bachelor's or Associate's degree in land surveying; Combination of education and coursework in surveying-related subjects; Specific coursework requirements as detailed in Board-approved course checklists.
Course Requirements (Pre-2026 and New 2026 Standards): Applicants must submit certified college transcripts. Approved Course Checklist must be accompanied by course descriptions from collegiate catalog.

Texas Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor Licensure Requirements - Engineering & Surveying Law and Rules
§1071.253: Passes the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination administered by NCEES. Certificate allows individual to gain experience under supervision of licensed surveyor.
Computer-based, available year-round. No limit to number of attempts. This certificate is the first step toward RPLS registration, allowing individuals to gain qualifying experience.
