Board Rules §133.13, §133.21 - Category 1(A): Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited program in the United States or Board designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET. Per §1001.302, graduation from a curriculum in engineering or related science is specifically required.

Also accepted: Board-approved combination of Bachelor's degree in mathematical, physical, or engineering sciences and a graduate degree in engineering from a university with an EAC/ABET accredited undergraduate program in the same discipline.

Board Rules and §1001.252-1001.254: Minimum of 4 years of active practice in engineering work, of a character satisfactory to the Board, indicating competence to be placed in responsible charge of such work. Must demonstrate clear use of engineering knowledge, engineering education, and engineering judgment to perform the task. Must be progressive, of an increasing standard of quality and responsibility.

Supplementary Experience Record (SER) required for ALL engineering experience claimed, must be typed in black ink, written in first person narrative form using complete sentences and active engineering verbs. Experience must be earned PRIOR to application submittal.

Examination Requirements: FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGINEERING (FE) EXAMINATION - Offered by NCEES (National Council of Examiners for Engineering & Surveying). Computer-based examination, available year-round. Applicants who have taken and passed the FE exam in another US jurisdiction will not have to take it again in Texas, but must obtain verification from the appropriate jurisdiction or NCEES.

Waiver available under Board Rule §133.69 for applicants who meet specific educational and experience requirements, submit written request, have not taken and failed the P&P exam in previous four years. If requesting waiver, 5 references required instead of 3.

Board Rule §133.51(b): Three (3) references from currently licensed Professional Engineers if not requesting exam waivers. Professional engineers can be licensed in any jurisdiction. P.E. references not licensed in Texas must provide a copy of their current pocket card or other documentation to verify an active license.

Reference types include: Character and Review of SER (for references familiar with applicant's work) or Character and Review of SER only for Purpose of Reference Statement (for references who did not work with applicant but can review experience).
